Life
Edward Crutchfield lies in grave M10 of the Prescott Post lot. His stone names his unit as Company K of the 1st U.S. Colored Infantry, and gives his death as 1901 according to the PV001 list; no date line is visible on the stone. [1]
The National Park Service's index of Civil War soldiers lists Crutchfield, Edmond, 1st U.S. Colored Infantry, Company K, private in and out, microfilm M589 roll 20. [2] The stone abbreviates the given name EDW. and the PV001 list gives Edward; the index card gives Edmond. The service record will say which he answered to.
A 2022 list of Civil War veterans buried at North Burial Ground gives his death as 1901. [3]
His service record, any pension file, and his life before and after the war have not yet been researched. This page will grow as the records are read.
