Life

Charles A. Jackson lies in grave C1 of the Prescott Post lot. The plot survey records his stone as naming his unit as Company B of the 11th US Heavy Artillery, and gives his death as November 11, 1915. [1]

The National Park Service's index of Civil War soldiers lists Jackson, Charles A., 11th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery, Company B, private in, corporal out, microfilm M589 roll 44 — the card that fits the stone; a second Charles A. Jackson is in Company E of the same regiment. [2] The survey sheet names the unit as the 11th U.S. Heavy Artillery, which is the 14th Rhode Island under its later designation.

A 2022 list of Civil War veterans buried at North Burial Ground gives his death as 1905. [3]

His service record, any pension file, and his life before and after the war have not yet been researched. This page will grow as the records are read.
