Life

Robert Crossley lies in grave A16 of the Prescott Post lot. His stone names his unit as Company A of the 2nd Rhode Island Volunteers, and gives his death as August 30, 1920. [1]

The National Park Service's index of Civil War soldiers lists Crosby, Robert (also filed as Crosley), 2nd Rhode Island Infantry, Company A, private in and out, microfilm M555 roll 2 — a probable match. [2] A Robert Crossley (or Crosley) also appears in the 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery, Battery C, corporal to sergeant — the same man or another, unresolved.

His service record, any pension file, and his life before and after the war have not yet been researched. This page will grow as the records are read.
